## What it does

Tag contacts to group them by what the other fields don't cover, such as a region or an account manager.

The Tags card in the right-hand column of a contact shows its tags as chips.

- Add a Tag opens a field in the card. As you type, it suggests tags your organisation has used before.
- Tags have no fixed list. The first time anyone uses a tag, type it in full.
- Each chip has a cross that removes the tag.
- On the Contacts list, the search box filters by Tags to show the contacts with a tag. [Work boards and tasks](/docs/boards/overview.md) covers the search box.

- An MCP client adds and removes a contact's tags through the tag tools.

## Before you start

These limits apply to tags on contacts, contact locations, orders, items and tasks, and in a bulk action's Tags field.

- A tag can be up to 100 characters.
- A tag can't contain `|`, since an export separates tags with it. Pressing Enter on one shows "A tag can't contain |." under the field, and Lucrii refuses it on save too. A bulk action's Tags field shows the same message, and Lucrii refuses a bulk job that adds or replaces such a tag before it starts.
- A contact, contact location, order, item or task can have up to 250 tags. Adding one more shows "A record can have up to 250 tags." under the field, and Lucrii refuses it on save too.
- A bulk action skips a record it would take past 250 tags, with the same message. Lucrii refuses a bulk action that sets more than 250 tags before it starts, as in "Choose at most 250 for Tags."

## How to use it

1. Open a contact and find the Tags card.
2. Select Add a Tag.
3. Type the tag, or choose a suggestion.
4. Press Enter to add it.
5. Select the cross on a chip to remove that tag.
